I am transgender.
It wasn’t a choice.
It wasn’t a phase.
This is me.
Mr. Bees designed this shirt using a print I recently made.
Some of you know I have recently been doing linoblock printing as a kind of self care.
Doing art has been an awesome outlet the past couple months while dealing with the increase in transphobia, violence, and pressure from within our own community to be perfect.
I made this heart as a 2″ linoblock print and Mr. Bees put it on a shirt to show me.
I’ve been waiting til I felt good enough to show you.
But I don’t think I’ll feel “good enough” again for a while so just like I can’t make being transgender more palatable or presentable, I can’t make myself more palatable or presentable either.
We don’t choose to be the way that we are.
Social justice is part of our heart.
We are messy, we make mistakes, we don’t always get it right but we’re also not afraid to DO something when action is called for.
So take this t-shirt and this print for what it is.
It’s raw. Just like me.
